i choose you

This Halloween, no dress-up is required. I am going as a sick lady :P Yesterday I lost my voice, overnight I've developed a nasty cough, and this morning I threw up. So tonight I'll be napping and ignoring all the kids ringing the doorbell (sorry!).

On the plus side, I got to dress up last week since my teachers college decided to join in on the festivities a week early:
I choose you, Staryu! I went as Misty from Pokemon ... though one classmate asked "Are you a fire-woman?" and a little piece of me died inside. I'm posing with a hippie and fellow classmate :)

And I was able to get into a semi-Halloween spirit a few weeks ago with a youth group I lead (along with The Boy and another girl), where our theme was falling for fall holidays. Oh yeah, we're full of cheese. We decorated owl cupcakes which was a hoot (yes, more cheese):

I was finally able to enjoy some autumn weather when my grade 8 class went on a retreat which offered gorgeous views like this one:

And this past weekend I was able to catch up with friends, have a horror movie marathon (full of [REC], [REC]2, and a downloaded version of Paranormal Activity 3, shhh), watch some Harry Potter and The Vampire Diaries with The Boy, and celebrate one of my best friend's birthday ... and getting sick at the same time haha.

With two of my best amigas

How are you enjoying your Halloween?
And here's the winner of my "what a hoot!" giveaway - thanks to all who joined!
Congrats goes to the fashionista Erika - make sure to email me your address :)

Next up: more news about our upcoming shop, a Christmas card exchange (before I bring back the postcard project) and finally a new layout? :) Hope you're all having a good start to your week!

happy hallowe'en!

Two years ago, I was a schoolgirl with her nerd. A year ago, I was a senorita named Rita. This year for Halloween? I'm dressing as an essay-writer ... so basically, my regular attire, my computer, and two books all ready to duke it out and write a paper that's due tomorrow. Spooky, huh? (insert Debbie Downer music here)

The main reason why I've continued to dress up over the years is because one of my best friends' birthdays happens to fall on Halloween, so the two went hand-in-hand. This time, due to work, we had to celebrate early so we just dressed up as ladies celebrating a birthday :)

Four best friends that a gal could ask for :)

Me with the birthday girl!

The night involved delicious food, cupcakes, catching up on life, meeting some pet rats (and surprisingly not being disgusted by it), and having a few more shots of vodka than I had anticipated to (but I was fiiiiiiiine, hehe). Now I'm just expecting to curse anyone who dares to ding-dong on our door for candy while I'm writing my paper :P

As for the rest of my week? Well, I dyed my hair! The box on the right a few posts ago ended up being the winner, and I ended up with more or less the same hair colour as before - just a tad lighter with a reddish pop :) And my second highlight of the week involved a surprise from The Boy - our loaded schedules mean that sometimes Wednesday nights is our only real night to spend together and this past one involved:

A delicious meal in the form of spaghetti, palacsinta (Hungarian crepes, recipe of the week!) and wine complete with candlelight.

That classic cliche that the way through a man's heart is through his stomach? The same can be applied to me. I was shocked and touched :) It was a perfect meal but it raised the stakes ... what should I cook for him for the next surprise dinner? *Suggestions gratefully welcomed :)*

And I'm slowly starting to get into the swing of things blog-wise; it's the first month since May that I've actually made more than six posts in a month so that's an improvement? But I definitely need to catch up, so bare with me and thanks, as always, for sticking by here and for being amazing bloggers.

Now, I must ask:
What did you do this Hallowe'en weekend?
And what's the creepiest thing that's ever happened to you?

I'm trying to remember the most creepiest. The main things that come to mind are gross men on buses or the time that it was stormy and I was hanging out at a friend's house. When the rain fell softly, we decided to take a stroll to the pizza store to get some food, and there were WORMS ALL OVER THE SIDEWALK. I hate wooooooorms, their squirmy bodies all over the sidewalk and you don't want to step on them so you tiptoe all around them bleerghhhh.

Oh, or the time that me and my co-workers were sitting in the staff room at the high school and suddenly some woman came over the speakerphone on the phone nearby and went, "Heeeellooooooo?" in the creepiest high-pitched voice. I used to write 'creepy' as 'creppy' ... and yes. Hope you all have a great start to November!

i've got the urge

No, not to herbal! But to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas. As I was thinking about a title for this blog all that came into my head was I'm Jack, the pumpkin king! and it reminded me of the love I have for that movie.

Speaking of media-related things (wow, worst segway ever) Nicole asked me what my favourite TV shows and movies are. For TV shows, I used to love Smallville until they changed it to Friday nights. But I will always love FRIENDS, Supernatural, Firefly, Castle, and my guilty pleasures: The Hills, Gossip Girl, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager (I can't help it!). And for movies, well that could take all day but here are a few favourites: Serendipity, A Knight's Tale, Runaway Jury, Spirited Away, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kate & Leopold, and Pirates of the Caribbean, just to name a few! What are yours?

And, speaking of Halloween (two paragraphs) ago, to the left you can see my costume from last year! I forced The Boy to be a school nerd while I was a 'sexy' schoolgirl who pouts a lot (I stole his glasses for that particular shot). It was fun wearing pigtails again and that whole vest-tie-pink-kilt outfit was awesome, methinks! My favourite accessory on the boy was a set of orange post-its that he kept in the chest pocket that had a mathematical equation on it. What a nerd :P

But, I kind of owe him this year. So as we browsed through costumes yesterday, I tried to keep my mouth shut and see what he wanted to be. What did he choose, you might be wondering?

A MEXICAN. He found a costume with a sombrero, poncho, and two pistols and decided he wanted to be that (but find his own accessories so it'd be cheaper). And to make it into a "couples' costume"? Well, I'm the Mexican Senorita named Rita. More on that later!

Now, I have to ask (even if you don't celebration Halloween):
What is the ultimate costume you would choose to dress up in?

Halloween's (or Hallowe'en, or Hallow's Eve) is not for another two weeks, but just thought I'd ask! Today, apparently, is Happy Sweetest Day (celebrated mostly around the Great Lakes and northeast United States, according to Wikipedia) which is pretty much like Valentine's Day. So odd ... I wish you lots of sweetness? And I wish LiLu a happy belated birthday!

And a few more pictures from last year:

Yup, we're dorks. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! :)
